이곳에 오면 “와, 통영 시민은 좋겠다!” 이런 감탄사가 저절로 나온다. 이순신공원은 문을 연지 얼마 안되었지만 남해 전망이 탁월하다. 경사도 가파르지 않고 군데군데 의자와 놀이터 등 휴식공간도 충분하여 어린이부터 동네 어르신까지 수많은 통영 시민들이 온다.

이순신공원

이곳에 오면 “와, 통영 시민은 좋겠다!” 이런 감탄사가 저절로 나온다. 이순신공원은 문을 연지 얼마 안되었지만 남해 전망이 탁월하다. 경사도 가파르지 않고 군데군데 의자와 놀이터 등 휴식공간도 충분하여 어린이부터 동네 어르신까지 수많은 통영 시민들이 온다. 여름철엔 바다에 뛰어들 수도 있다. 최근에 문을 연 이곳은 관광객은 물론 통영시민도 극찬한다. 의외로 외지인에게는 잘 알려지지 않아 관광객은 잘 보이지 않는다. 한쪽에 세워진 이순신 동상은 왼쪽에 칼을 차고, 오른손으로 한산도 부근을 가리킨다. 그 위엄이 대단하다. 시내에서 이순신공원까지 걸어서 갈 수도 있지만, 주변 환경이 그닥 좋지 않으므로 택시를 추천한다. “공원은 참 잘 만들어놨는데, 진입로가 너무 불편하다” 정환정씨와 택시기사가 똑 같은 말을 한다. 하지만 일단 이순신공원에 도달하는 순간, 대한민국에서 가장 전망이 좋은 좋은 공원이라는데 이견이 없을 것이다. 입장료는 없다. 따뜻한 봄날, 도시락을 싸들고 반나절쯤 머물러 보자.
