2008년 영국 인테리어 디자인 경향

런던 디자인 위크(London Design Week)를 중심으로

유럽의 인테리어 업계에서는 한 해의 인테리어 경향을 제시하고 업체간 거래가 이루어지는 장인 Fair(페어: 비슷한 개념으로 exposition(박람회)과 exhibition(전시회)가 있는데 페어의 경우 대체로 이들보다는 규모가 작고 정기적으로 열리며 제품의 소개와 전시뿐 아니라 거래와 판매가 현장에서 이루어지는 차이가 있다)가 열린다. 영국의 경우도 이러한 페어가 크고 작게 열리는데, 그 중 영국의 인테리어 디자이너와 업계를 대표하는 British Interior Design Association(BIDA: 영국 인테리어 디자인 협회)이 주최하는 페어를 주목해 볼 만하다. BIDA는 "Decorex(데코렉스)"라는 박람회(Exhibition)를 매해 9월에 Royal Hospital Chelsea(첼시 왕립 병원) 행사장에서 개최하는데 올해는 9월 21일부터 24일까지 개최될 예정이다(www.decorex.com). 또한 "Focus(포커스)"라는 행사가 Decorex와 연계하여 같은 기간 동안 근처 Design Centre Chelsea Habour(디자인 센터 첼시 하버)에서 열린다. 9월에는 Focus가 Autumn/Winter(가을/겨울) 시즌을 겨냥해서 열리고, 3월에는 Spring/Summer(봄/여름) 시즌을 위해 London Design Week(런던 디자인 위크)가 열린다. Focus와 London Design Week는 이름만 다르고 행사내용은 거의 같다고 할 수 있다. 나는 지난해 2007년 9월 Decorex와 Focus, 그리고 올해 2008년 3월에 열린 London Design Week에 참가하였는데 한 해 또는 한 시즌의 디자인 흐름을 읽고 이 분야 업계동향을 살펴볼 수 있어서 매우 유익한 시간을 가졌다. 그 외에도 올 한해 영국에서는 미술, 디자인, 앤틱 등의 분야에서 다양한 전시회나 박람회가 열릴 예정이다
