베어트리파크(Beartree Park)

LG그룹 고문을 지낸 이재연 회장의 개인 수목원이었던 ‘송파랜드’가 지난 11일 ‘베어트리파크’라는 이름으로 새롭게 개장해 화제다. 베어트리파크는 이 회장이 45년 전 젊은 시절부터 틈틈이 가꿔온 수목원이다.

시골 담벼락에서 옮겨온 향나무는 아름드리가 되었고, 지인으로부터 선물 받은 반달곰과 사슴 한 쌍은 대를 이어 수백 마리의 무리를 이루었다.

이 회장은 직접 일본이나 유럽으로 찾아다니며 어깨 너머 배운 기술로 국내에서 처음 양란의 조직 배양에 성공했고, 꽃창포와 수련 재배, 소나무 분재 등에서 자타가 인정하는 전문가 반열에 올랐다. 수십 년 동안 애지중지 가꿔오고도, 일반에 개방하기로 결심한 후 7년을 더 준비했다.
